Obituary

CROSS PLAINS - Marjorie M. “Marge” Schwartz, age 72, of Cross Plains, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026. She was born on December 15, 1953, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Peter and Patricia (O'Brien) Carlson.

Marge graduated from Madison West High School in 1972. On September 20, 1986, she married William "Bill" Schwartz in the home they built themselves. They were together for 50 years, a milestone Marge was very proud of. In addition to her role as a wife and mother, she especially cherished time with her grandson, Holden. Marge enjoyed a lengthy career working for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Marjorie was an outgoing, friendly person who could enter a room and know everyone in it within half an hour if she didn’t already. She was known for her great sense of humor and was quick with a joke. She loved to cook and could prepare a feast at a moment's notice. She also loved the outdoors - camping, going to state and county parks with her brother, Mark, and enjoying her own flower gardens and hanging plants. Her early hobbies also included working with stained glass and taxidermy.

Marjorie is survived by husband, William; son, Samual (Amanda Peschek); daughter, Kelsey Schwartz; Daniel Kramer; grandson, Holden Kramer-Schwartz; brothers, Mark Carlson and Michael (Mary) Carlson; along with other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A party to celebrate Marge’s life will be held at REX’S INNKEEPER, 301 N. Century Ave., Waunakee, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Henry Vilas Zoo, 702 S. Randall Avenue, Madison, WI 53715 (henryvilaszoo.doubleknot.com/registration/donate.aspx?activitykey=3130096) or the organization of your choice.
