Obituary

MADISON - Julia K. “Julie” Brummel, age 72, of Deerfield, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Born on November 16, 1953, in Minneapolis, Minn., Julie was the daughter of Robert and Carol (Amundsen) Maveus.

Julie graduated from Brodhead High School in 1971. She married the love of her life, Daniel Brummel, on May 3, 2008, beginning a life filled with laughter, family and simple joys.

Julie found joy and peace in the prairie landscape surrounding her home. Most mornings began with a cup of coffee in hand as she kept a close eye on the wildlife outside her kitchen window. She treasured quiet evenings spent with Dan, watching the sunset stretch across their pond while sharing a drink and solving the world’s problems together. Julie and Dan owned Capilia Hair Loss Solutions; it was sold just months ago. She did all the bookkeeping for 20 years and will be missed by many people.

An avid reader, Julie could easily disappear into a good book for hours, usually with her cat nearby. She also enjoyed tending her chickens. Julie loved cooking and baking shows and was always inspired to try a new recipe of her own. She was quite a good chef.

Julie had a way of making life feel warmer and more welcoming. Everyone should have had a Julie in their life - the world would certainly be a brighter, kinder, and better place because of it.

Julie is survived by her husband, Daniel; children, Rachel Braun, Paul (Jackie) Beringer and Travis (Monica) Coplien; grandchildren, Zack, Matt, Ella, Arya and Aiden; brothers, Dirk Maveus, Todd Maveus, Rob Maveus and Jon Maveus; sister, Laura (Gary) Steuck; stepsons, Andrew Brummel, Austin Brummel and Braedan Brummel; and nephews, Parker and Griffin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Carol Maveus; and her daughter, Victoria Braun.

A private life celebration will be held at a later date for Julie’s family.
