Obituary
MCFARLAND - Bernard E. “Bernie” Braun, age 80, of McFarland, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at Edgerton Hospital. He was born on June 23, 1945, in Madison, the son of Edmund and Jane (Mickey) Braun.
Bernard graduated from Monona Grove High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He then became an electrician and was a member of IBEW Local No. 159. Bernard married Diane (Dittberner) on October 6, 1973, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Monona.
Bernie loved his family dearly and felt especially privileged to be a childcare provider for his two grandsons. He always said the most precious thing that God has given us was our children and grandchildren. He was extremely gifted and passionate about gardening. This love was instilled in him early in his childhood by his father. He took great pride in growing his produce and then sharing it with family, friends and those in need. Other passions in his life included camping, traveling, being a member of the Cracker Jack Association and attending Thresher reunions and flea markets.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Diane; children, Lisa Braun and Jeffrey Braun; two grandsons, Hunter Braun and Garrett Braun; siblings, Beverly Miller, Barbara Niemann, Jean Gillette, Richard (Jane) Braun, James Braun, Shirley (Mark) Herkert, Sharon (John) Bartosch, Jacqueline Braun and Michael Braun, Terrance (Jeanne) Braun; in-laws, Melford Frydenlund, Patricia Infusino-Braun, Donald (Elizabeth) Dittberner and Linda Elmore; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Patricia Frydenlund, Judith Grudzina and Joseph Infusino-Braun; and brothers-in-law, John Leske, Martin Miller, Dave Niemann and Vincent Grudzina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at CHRIST THE KING CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5306 Main St., McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens in Cottage Grove. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday.
