STOUGHTON - Julie Palmer, age 65, of Stoughton, unexpectedly passed away in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sunday, May 17, 2026. She was born on May 1, 1961, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Richard and Judith (Smith) Lenz.
Julie graduated from Omro High School in 1979. During her high school years, she enjoyed participating in the band and jazz ensemble where she excelled on the saxophone. She married Thomas "Tom" Palmer on June 27, 1981, in Oshkosh. One of Julie’s most cherished memories with Tom was a special trip they took to Italy two years ago.
Julie worked for many years as a payroll specialist in the English Department at the UW-Madison, retiring December 2024. She was known for her dedication and strong work ethic, rarely missing a day of work throughout her career.
Julie’s strong faith guided her throughout her life. She will be remembered for her thoughtful, selfless and welcoming spirit. She found great joy in caring for others and was always happiest when surrounded by family and friends, often preparing more than enough food to ensure no one ever left her home hungry. Deeply devoted to her family, Julie was always ready to drop everything to help those she loved. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She found joy in baking, gardening, reading, especially novels by Danielle Steel, working puzzles, and playing cards and board games. She also loved listening to country music and sharing laughter with her family and friends. She valued her involvement in, “The Girls Bunko Group,” River Food Pantry and Blackhawk Church Bible study group.
Julie is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter, Tracy (Seth) Kussmaul and two sons, Steven (Robin) Palmer and Kevin Palmer; grandchildren, Eleanor and Abraham Kussmaul; sister, Janet (Jay) Treleven; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Judith; and brother, Michael Lenz.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 12 noon on Friday, May 29, 2026, with Julie Speth presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. A luncheon will follow the service.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
