Obituary

SUN PRAIRIE - Robert A. Highsmith, age 85, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on May 24, 1940, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Harold and Doris (Bowsher) Highsmith.

Bob graduated from Glen High School. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family and retired from Chrysler after 31½ years of dedicated service. Over the years, Bob worked on the assembly line, drove vehicles off the line, transported cars to the mechanical station, and eventually worked in the plant’s maintenance department.

Bob was an avid Green Bay Packers fan who enjoyed spending time with his dogs, tinkering around the house, and working on cars - especially his purple 1999 Plymouth Prowler. He always liked to keep busy and was happiest when he had a project to work on.

Bob is survived by his wife, Karen; brother, Ronald (Ellen) Highsmith; twin sister, Judy Pigoni-Grant; five children, Bettina Elwood, Katrina (Ed Pifer) Kloth, Robin Highsmith, Matthew (Kristen) Coutts and Andrya (Erik Olsen) Coutts; grandchildren, Amber, Randy, Trinity, Lilly, Cosette, Jorja and Jameson; and great-grandchild, Mya. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Steve Hudson; and grandson, Christopher.

In keeping with Bob's wishes, no services will be held.

Bob’s Dad and mine were brothers. The Highsmith family when we were growing up was a close unit. I’m son to be 83 so Bob was a little older than I am now when I was about 11 or twelve and Bob was a couple years older, I fancied myself as a boxer. We were at Grandma and Grandpa Highsmith’s house for some family get together. There were boxing gloves and Bob and I put them on for a little cousin sparing. I was a little cocky about my boxing abilities and as we started, I was dancing like Mohamed Ali when threw a right that hit me square on the nose. I saw stars for a few minutes and my boxing career was over just like that as I was being tended to by Bob and his older brother Ron. Cousins never let another cousin suffer!

Karen, I loved coming to your Arizona home for a cookie or two. Karen, hold on to the wonderful memories you have, I know to be many. Blessings, Linda Genty
