CROSS PLAINS - Raphael Anton “Ray” Acker passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on December 31, 1955, Ray was the eldest son of Edward and Susan (Brabender) Acker and the cherished brother of six siblings.

Following the example of his father, Ray dedicated the first half of his life to the family farm. Working side by side with his dad, who served as his mentor and role model, he developed a profound appreciation for the natural cycles of life. He was a man defined by his kindness, generosity, and wisdom, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

After his father’s passing, Ray stepped away from the family farm, returning to his career as an operator behind the controls of heavy equipment for Boehnen, Inc. He possessed a true passion for his work, viewing each project as an opportunity to artfully sculpt the landscape and witness the evolution of the land.

The only thing he found more joy in than shaping the land was being given the opportunity to raise his four children. If you were to ask Ray on any given day what his proudest accomplishment was in life, without hesitation he would say his kids. He loved them endlessly, through every sporting event, choir concert and even potential expulsion (looking at you Ryan), the love and support of dad was never in question.

Grandchildren came in his later years and gave him the opportunity to share his wisdom, stories, and pocket change once more. Dad answered to many names but Grandpa Ray was probably his favorite.

Ray is survived by his children: Kyle Acker and his children, Matthew and Aubree; Sara (Doug) Evanson and their children, Tyler, Morgan, and Lauryn; Eric Acker; and Ryan (Sarah Germany) Acker and Kailey Germany. He is further survived by his siblings, Dorie (Danny) Prochaska, Donna (Gerald) Kennedy, Darcy Acker, Rose (Mike) McGinnis, Lee Acker, and Carl (Susie) Acker; his significant other, Joanne Olson; the mother of his children, Jane Krogstad; his mother, Susan Acker; along with numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephew; and his close friend, Danny Meinholz. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Acker; and his son, Keith, in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, with interment and luncheon to follow the Mass. A visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

We would also like to give our immense gratitude to the staff at UW Hospital and Cody Lochner for the meticulous care they showed Dad in his final moments as well as the compassion given to family and friends during our time of mourning.

Ray was one of the kindest people I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. He came into Riley on many Sunday mornings for breakfast while I was working, and he always brought warmth and joy with him. He loved sharing stories about his family and spoke about them with such pride and love. He will be missed by anyone who knew him. Prayers and condolences to his family.
