MADISON - David Edward Gammon, age 88, of McFarland, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1938, in Sciotoville, Ohio, the son of Delbert Gammon and Julia (Kowalski) Gammon.
David attended Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling, Ill. He was united in marriage to Susan Deets on August 14, 1957, in Sterling, Ill. and they shared 68 years together.
Dave worked for Piggly Wiggly and Eagle Foods for many years, until his retirement in 1983. He found joy in completing challenging jigsaw puzzles, bowling, and tending his vegetable garden from planting to harvest.
David is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Donald "Don" (Bridget Hennessy) Gammon, Timothy “Tim” (Cynthia Curtis) Gammon and Dan "Joe" Gammon; grandchildren, Jennifer (Nick) Donovan, Aaron (Sonia) Bries, Daniel (Milly) Novak and Natalie (Grant) Davis; great-grandchildren, Emma, Jackson, Jett, Scarlett, Avery, Vaida and Rosalie; and sister, Anita. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Julia Gammon; daughter, Julie Novak; and son, David Gammon, Jr.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at GREEN LANTERN RESTAURANT, 4412 Siggelkow Road, McFarland, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
