Betty Barbara Faust

MOUNT HOREB - Betty Faust, age 83, of Mount Horeb, passed on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. She was born in Cottageville, S.C., on September 7, 1942. When her parents, Bessie E. Davidson (1901-1947) and David E. Ackerman (1899-1952) passed away, she began her life in Wisconsin, residing with her sister, Applis Virginia Hook.

Betty was born to a big family-the last of her parents’ eleven children-and loved having a large family of her own. She raised five children while spending over 50 years at as an aide and then surgical scheduler at St. Mary’s Hospital. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables and gifting the fruits of her labor to those she loved. If you gave her some decent rhubarb, she would bake you an unforgettable pie. If you asked her, you’d be hard pressed to find a restaurant that offered better food than anything she could cook up, and more often than not, she was right about that. She looked forward to welcoming family and friends in her home and would make sure everyone was well fed before taking a bite for herself.

Betty was a proud member of the Edisto Natchez-Kusso Tribe of South Carolina. She was never afraid of turquoise, whether she was wearing the stone in some jewelry or selecting it as a paint for her living room. She traveled widely, whether that be to the islands of Hawaii or to her homelands in South Carolina. Throughout her life, she nurtured the talents of her children, grandchildren and other loved ones, whether that be in athletics, music or art. She was a teacher, a storyteller and a listening ear. She had a gift for helping people feel, do and be better. She centered her family and her God in all of her good works. Above all, Betty brought people together. She wholeheartedly believed that your loved ones do not leave you, so long as you carry them.

Betty is survived by her sister, Letha Russel; her children, Kim (Rick) Ackerman, Lynn (Stu) Hodgson, Pete (Martha) Faust and Ricky Faust; her grandchildren, Jeff (Jess) and Derek (Breanna) Ackerman, Casey (Jeremy) Foxen, Dustin (Madeline) Hodgson, Quinn (Alexandra), Aquoya, Shane, Shayanna, Carson (Samuel) and Lauren Faust; and her great-grandchildren, Sloane, Ramsey, Ayden, Ashlyn, Porter, Kendra, Killian, Amaya and Franklin.

In death, Betty is reunited with her son, Shane Lee Faust; her parents; and her siblings, Louise, Roselee, Edna, David, Berlin, Elizabeth, Pearl, Applis and Morris.
