Obituary

MADISON - Donna Jean Boyer, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, at The Meadows of Fall River. She was born on January 28, 1945, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Larry and Alice (Schey) Johnson.


Cricket graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1962. She married Ronald “Ron” Boyer on November 30, 1963, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monona, Wis., and they were together for 61 years until Ron’s passing in 2025.


Cricket was a homemaker, raising her children with love and care. She was also Ron’s business ‘partner,’ helping him run The Village Green Bar & Grill in Middleton, Wis., for 47 years.


Cricket and Ron spent a lot of time traveling the world, adding pushpins to her world map every time they visited a new place. When back home, she loved to have a good time with her friends and family. She was always open to new experiences and was forever on the lookout for her new adventure. Most importantly, Cricket loved her family, and her great joy in life was seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.


Donna is survived by her brothers, Jerry, Dale and Alan Johnson; children, Ronda (DuWayne) Sweno, Chad, David and Craig Boyer; grandchildren, Lauren (Lucas) Plant, Kaitlyn (Ben) Schuh, Dylan Boyer, Parker Boyer, Owen Boyer and Avery Boyer; and great-grandchildren, Breckyn Plant, Caldyr Plant, Maeva Schuh and Alden Schuh. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Ron Boyer; sister, Janice Friedl; and parents, Larry and Alice Johnson.


A private celebration of life will be held in Cricket’s honor.


Special thanks to Cricket’s care “family” at The Meadows of Fall River for their amazing love, support and sense of humor.

I went to work for Ron at Kelly's back when I was about 16 in 1962 or 1963. Eventually Cricket and Ron got married. Cricket always had a smile on her face whether it was greeting me at Kelly's or later at the Village Green. Rick Lyngaas.

My mother is at the meadows, and we would often sit outside on the chairs on the side where Cricket lived. I would always say to her, "Are you ready for happy hour Cricket?" She would always reply, " if you buy, I will go get it." After reading her obituary, her response made perfect sense. I will miss seeing her as she always had a way of putting a smile on my face. Donna, my sister was also my best friend throughout my life. She brought so much joy and spirit to our family. Generous and always in physical and mental motion. We have so many “belly laugh” memories and good natured come backs from her. I will miss the many good things she brought to my life
