Obituary
WINDSOR - Derek Richard Anderson, age 43, of Windsor, passed away suddenly due to a tragic accident on Sunday, April 19, 2026. He was born on February 16, 1983, in Madison, the son of Richard Anderson and Terri Hoepker.
Derek graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 2001. He went on to work in many fulfilling jobs, including his most recent role as a finishing shop painter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was also a proud member of the Painters Union.
Derek’s greatest pride and joy was being a father to his son, Ozzy. He loved him more than anything, and being his daddy was the best thing that ever happened.
Derek had a generous heart and was just like his father by always willing to help others-even complete strangers. He gave his time volunteering at the VFW and was truly loved by so many.
If you knew Derek, you knew his playful side-he was a bit of a prankster who could always make people laugh. He was a Bruins hockey fan and enjoyed playing hockey, golfing, pool, darts, fishing and collecting ‘80s movie memorabilia, playing video games and spending time tinkering-whether that meant breaking things or fixing them.
Derek is survived by his son, Ozzy Anderson; mother, Terri Hoepker; step father, Lorne Hoepker; step mother, Janine Anderson; sisters, Kolina Anderson (Mike Martin), Mandy (Mat) Scamardo, Jamie (Sean) McNally; brothers, Travis Hoepker and Chance Anderson (Sarah Holdeman); nieces and nephews, Kayla, Mason, Cicada, Jayden, Revel and Kenna; significant other Kimberly Funk and her children Lilli and Sawyer; mother of Ozzy, Jenna Swiggum; aunt, Pam Anderson; uncle, Jeff (Laurie) and their kids, Jake and Steven Ostry; and dog, Louise; and cat, Emma.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Anderson, grandfather, Rudy Ostry; grandmother, Doraine Klitzman and grandparents, Marcella (Gus) Sommers; and dogs, Lily and Meishka; and cat, Big Boy.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 p.m. noon on Sunday, May 3, 2026, with the Rev. Scott Marrese-Wheeler presiding.
