Obituary

COTTAGE GROVE - Deanna Lucille Wollin (nee Schernecker) passed away April 11, 2026. She was born October 6, 1939, to Elmer and Anona (Feuling) Schernecker and grew up on the family farm in Marshall, Wis. She married William (Bill) J. Wollin on September 12, 1959, moved to Cottage Grove and raised a family of five kids.

Deanna excelled in school and enjoyed playing in the band. After high school she began working in her chosen career field of administrative assistant and bookkeeping by working for local small businesses and the Wisconsin Department of Vocational Rehabilitation from where she retired in 2002. She was a charter member of the Cottage Grove Lioness Club and along with Bill started Cub Scout Pack 145. She was instrumental in organizing the early parades for the Cottage Grove Firemen's Festival and the Happy Whistlers float sponsored by the Cottage Grove Lions Club. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church since 1960 where she taught catechism and played the organ. Deanna was also a Girl Scout parent leader, was involved in the 4-H club and the Cottage Grove Historical Society. Later in life she enjoyed traveling with the Red Hat Ladies to Europe. Additionally, she trotted the globe to Australia and visited her daughter Lorie's family in Montana. When home, she enjoyed knitting newborn stocking hats which she donated to hospitals, playing cards and helping the Cottage Grove Historical Society.

Deanna is survived by her five children, Lorie (Steven) Paske, David (Dianne) Wollin, Marcia (Michael) Reagan, Gary (Jennifer) Wollin and Richard (Hillary) Wollin; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Dawn (Jack) Hensen; brother, Gerald (Pam) Schernecker; sisters-in-law, Kathy Schernecker and Terry Schernecker; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws/outlaws and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Kenneth, Eugene and Dwayne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 434 N. Main St., Cottage Grove, at 11 a.m. on Friday April 24, 2026, with Father Matthew Pearson presiding. A visitation will be held 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

In keeping with what Deanna valued most, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, you dedicate your time to building cherished memories with friends and family. Your presence is the greatest gift and the most meaningful way to honor her memory. Monetary donations can be made to the Cottage Grove Historical Society and Agrace HospiceCare. The family wishes to thank the staff of Agrace and Just Checking In for their support of Deanna in her final time at home. She was able to receive her final wish of being at home on her last day.
