Debra,
My heart goes out to you. Henry was a privilege to know. I count out friendship as a wonderful blessing. “Mase” was a class act indeed. A terrific coach, even better person. Always positive. Wow, the memories are many and all upbeat ! He loved playing in the Canonie Invitational. As a lefty golfer, I selected a few pin placements that favored him. He loved it. Teased the other coaches !
When he had his injury, I drove to Madison and talked my way into Intensive Care…he laid on his stomach and I put my head next to his. He smiled-what a world class smile-and said “how did you get in “. I said “told them we were cousins”. He laughed thru his pain.
I loved Henry Mason and you Debra are amazing and always a sweetheart.
God Bless

Hi Debbie,
My deepest condolences to you, your family, and all who were fortunate enough to know Coach Mason. He will be profoundly missed.
There are very few people in my life who have had the kind of lasting impact that Coach Mason did. He was more than a coach, he was a mentor, a guide, and someone who seemed to genuinely understand people at their core. What made him so impactful to me was his ability to give you exactly what you needed in the moment: a steady shoulder when you needed support, a well-timed joke to remind you not to take life too seriously, or tough love that pushed you to reflect, grow, and be better.
He had a rare gift for reading people and connecting in a way that felt real and lasting. I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to know him beyond my time with the Wisconsin Badgers football.
Coach Mason made a difference in my life that I will carry with me, and I know I’m far from alone in that.
Warmest regards,
Nick Davis

Hi Debbie,
Henry and I were in the same grade and went to Northwest Elementary School together all the way through Marshall High School.
While I was never close to being the athlete Bubba was, he always inspired me to do more and be better. That drive ultimately led me to spend a short time in the NFL and a couple of years in the USFL.
In all the years I played football after leaving Marshall, I never saw anyone who played with more heart than he did.
For about the last seven years he was at Wisconsin, we stayed in touch on his birthday, as we were born just 20 days apart.
Although I don’t know you personally, I truly appreciate you sharing him with the world, and I will continue to keep you in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Don Gaddy
