Barry R Holmes

Barry was larger than life. Whenever he was around there was bound to be lots of laughter and even some eye rolls. Barry took every chance he got to go on adventures, especially when he could share them with his family.

Barry lived for his family. If anyone needed anything he would be right there to help fix it, be with you as you fixed it or swear about how it couldn't be fixed and help come up with a new plan.

He dedicated his life to making sure his sons had what they needed and stood by them as they became young adults and continued to gain confidence, independence and create families themselves.

Throughout his sons’ entire lives, he attended multiple sporting events, school activities, Special Boy Scouts, dances, bowling leagues, Bingo, volunteer events, and various other activities.

If it was important to his family, it was important to Barry! One of his favorite things to do was spend time with his family and make mischief with them! He also was a Master Carpenter and locally famous for his barnboard picture frames.

He watched the Chicago Bears never missing an opportunity to mention how his team was the best, loved motorcycle rides with his oldest son, Adam, and spent any time he could with his granddaughter, Anna, beaming as he talked about going to visit them. He went on numerous hunting and canoeing trips with his son, Dan, fishing with Dillon, watching or attending NASCAR races with Dusty, and camping and canoeing with his lifelong friend, Dave, sometimes including, Dave’s family, his brother, Garry, and his daughter-in-law, Michelle. When you went with Barry you never knew what you would get. Sometimes it was a laugh, a lesson and sometimes it was just a surprise turtle in your tent surrounded by laughter.

When he became a grandpa he would always be found on the floor, playfully teasing his family and bringing smiles. He played silly games with his grandkids, and would always join in what they were playing, whether it was watching a favorite show, eating some cake, playing doll house, drawing with chalk or playing ball.

Barry also made sure to share his love with his wife showing her in lots of little ways how important she was to him. He greatly enjoyed taking Julie on date nights, going to concerts or going out to eat with her.

A celebration of life will be held at OREGON VILLAGE HALL, 101 Alpine Parkway, Oregon, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday May 2, 2026.
