Obituary

LODI - Russell N. Reible, 66, of Lodi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Eden Vista Assisted Living. He was born on October 31, 1959, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of the late Norman and Elizabeth (Bongard) Reible.

Russell’s life was quietly shaped by service, steady work, and a deep love of the outdoors. After graduating from Madison East High School in 1977, he answered the call to serve and joined the U.S. Navy. Those years instilled in him a calm confidence and a respect for history that stayed with him his whole life. Upon returning home, Russ had several jobs before he began his long career with Thermo Fisher Scientific. He later joined St. Mary’s Hospital, where his dedication and steady presence were valued until retiring due to his health.

He married Bonnie Kuska, and together they shared many years of travel, friendship, and everyday joys. Russell was an avid outdoorsman who felt most at peace amid the woods and on the water. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies but ways he connected to the world and to loved ones. He also delighted in historical war and western films, enjoyed watching the races at Angel Park, and treasured road trips with Bonnie across the United States.

Russell’s family was central to his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; stepchildren, Michelle (Todd) Thompson and Brian (Vahna) Kuska; grandchildren, Nick (Sydney) Johnson, Noah Johnson, Natalie (Dylan) Weber, and Rachael (Levi) Courtney, Angie (Kody) Hunt, Kalie (Lucas) Miller,  R. J. Gipprich, and Dylan Kuska; brothers, Dennis (Kathy) and Kenneth Reible; sister, Mary Natera; mother-in-law, Doris Schnabel; sister-in-law, Cheryl Schnabel; brothers-in-law, Craig (Janelle) and Brian Schnabel; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends who will remember his gentle humor and generous spirit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lawrence Schnabel.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, with Chaplain B.J. Tapley presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Storytown Cemetery, Brooklyn, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Russell will be remembered as a steady companion, a proud veteran, and a man who found joy in simple, enduring pleasures - the call of the wild, the comfort of a good movie, and the company of family.

I grew up with Russ on Madison's Northeast side. He was a very good hearted, caring guy, always, smiling, sincere, and we all shared hunting and fishing stories, growing up. Russ was always a supporter of his friends and our athletic teams at East Highschool. I did not know what he was doing in life after highschool and I am not surprised to hear of his service to nation, the Russ I knew! Qnd Lodi is a gateway to the outdoors area, and I am sure he was all in. Condolences out to the whole family and clans from one of Russ' childhood buddies. Those of us who knew Russell well, knew he was a really good guy. Rest in Peace Russ! Jim "Ben" Hobbins '78 And Family

I loved caring for him throughout the time he was here at Eden Vista. He was a very kind, wonderful and strong man. It was a blessing to be able to know someone so true to their soul and so kind. He will forever be missed by many. I didn’t know him very long but the time I did know him we shared many laughs together.
