STOUGHTON - Elaine Osterberg Vesterdahl, age 89, of Stoughton, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on August 1, 1936, in Apple River, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Martin) Boelk.


Elaine grew up in Apple River, IL, and attended high school in Warren, IL. She married Howard Osterberg on May 29, 1954. After his passing, she was blessed to find love a second time and married Ron Vesterdahl in October 1990. Elaine worked as a bus driver for Stoughton Area School District for over 20 years.


Elaine had a deep love of music, and she and Ron shared that passion by performing for residents in local nursing homes and at family gatherings. In the summer, Ron and Elaine loved to travel in their motor home and camping with family and friends. She was also a proud life member of the VFW.


Elaine is survived by her husband, Ron; children, Diana (Kevin) Hanson, Jackie (Rich) Nelson, Ron (Kim) Vesterdahl, Scot (Linda) Vesterdahl, Cheryl (Rob) Moe and Danny Vesterdahl; grandchildren, Brett (Jill), Cole (Lindsey), Amber (Derek), Eric (Tessa), Erin, Lee (Adrianne), Robert (Kayla), Matthew (Megan), Kyle (Dace), Katie (Caleb), Brett (Malia) and Kayla (Joe); 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Sandra (Sylvanus), Sue (Gene) and Ann (Dave). She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard; parents, Ralph and Hazel; and siblings, Mickey, Linda, Ronnie, Judy, Margie and Pat.  


Per Elaine’s request there will be no funeral. A celebration of life will be held at the VFW POST 328, 200 Veterans Road, Stoughton, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

Richard and I lived next door to the Vesterdahls for seven years. We spent many a relaxing hour sitting in their driveway discussing topics that ran the gamut. Elaine loved my marguaritas and I loved Ron's old fashioneds. We enjoyed celebrating St. Pat's with them while savoring Elaine's corned beef and cabbage. Ron and Richard always kept a lookout for ways to help each other out. What a joy it was to have such good neighbors! Though we moved to Virginia, we continued to think of them fondly and often, returning for brief visits during the holidays. We'll see you later, Elaine. Love, Sherri
