We had the delight to know Dave, socially and academically. He embraced that rare combination of gentleness and forcefulness. He always seemed a spirit who cared about all those around him, wanting to make a difference for the Good, while still irresistibly moving forward, finding ways to make things happen. David was a wonderful mentor who deeply impacted how I approach my work and treat others. I'm really grateful to have had the opportunity to work together. Dave's was a life well lived and he's always inspired me to be my best self.

A few years ago Dave gave me a ride to the Madison airport. Another driver cut him off, and Dave waited 2 beats, gave the wheel a little tug and said, 'Are you sure you want to test the reflexes of an 80 year old?'...amidst his many impacts and accomplishments, he was focused on the people and task at hand, and kind & funny as he did it.

While Dave’s passing is difficult to bear and hits extremely hard…the strength, compassion, lightheartedness, curiosity, resolve, perseverance, and countless other positive qualities Dave Sr bestowed upon those around him as a shining role model, mentor, friend, and loved one during his brilliant life allows us to carry his spirit forward with us. Forever guiding us in striving to realize the shining radiance of the true human potential he saw in each of us and summoned forth to act upon in our own lives and to share broadly and abundantly.
