Obituary

MADISON - Anne Meyer, 72, of Madison, Wis., died peacefully in her sleep after a long, hard-fought battle with ALS on March 3, 2026. She was born on October 12, 1953, in Fort Campbell, Ky.

Anne met the love of her life, Steven Meyer, in 1974 after he saw her out a window and asked her dad’s permission to call her and take her on a date. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in 1975. The two went on many adventures during their 50+ years of marriage, and Steven was her primary caregiver for the past four years.

Anne’s children, Stephanie Smith and Danny Meyer, were the lights of Anne’s life. Anne also loved her son-in-law, Edward ‘Ted’ Smith, and, most of all, her granddaughter, Sidney. Sidney lovingly called Anne ‘Nunu,’ and Nunu was Sidney’s very favorite person. It was a joy for them to have such a close bond.

Anne was passionate about her role as administrator (‘Director of First Impressions’) at Pearson Engineering, where she worked for 15 years. She was an active member of People’s United Methodist Church, where she served as music director for many years. Prior to this, Anne held many worship director roles at churches in Episcopalian and Lutheran dioceses throughout Wisconsin. She led worship groups such as Aspire, Evensong, Bell Choir, and several others and was beloved by all who made music with her. Everyone who knew Anne also knew how much she loved her time as worship director at Camp Webb in the 90s and early 2000s. Making music with the campers and staff at Camp Webb was the highlight of her life, and she would want you all to know how much you meant to her.

Anne will always be remembered for her cheerful nature, her amazing storytelling, and for giving the best hugs. We will miss Anne every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

Anne is survived by her husband, Steven; her children, Stephanie (Ted) Smith and Danny Meyer; and her brothers, Michael (Kathy) Borman and Tim (Mary) Borman. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jackie Kubec; her mother’s husband, Bob Kubec; her father, Milton Borman; and her brother, Milton ‘Buddy’ Borman.

A memorial service will be held at PEOPLE'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 103 Alpine Parkway, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, with Pastor Justin Beatty presiding. A reception will be held at the church after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Association (www.ALS.org) would be greatly appreciated. Anne was determined to help find a cure for this devastating disease. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

The first time I met Anne she was coming over to fawn over her beautiful 3 month old granddaughter Sidney. She was so in love with her you could feel it. And we reminisced over the fact that Sidney Anne was named after her and how shocked she was by this news when she first heard, and the story goes that her reaction also made her daughter surprised because of course Sidney was always going to be Sidney Anne! What else is there?! She had a smile and laugh that lit of the room and lit up Sidney. I only ever saw her around her family and you could always tell how much they all meant to her, but especially Sid. Anne will be so missed by anyone who had the honor of meeting her. All my love to her family.

I remember meeting Anne when I was a 5 year old girl. She was chic and so sophisticated having just returned to the US from Paris. As the oldest cousin Anne wore the mantel well. She was loving and kind and a great friend to my mother, her aunt Phyllis. We all loved her and will miss her.
