Edwin Matush

MIDDLETON - Edwin Robert "Ed" Matush, age 89, of Middleton, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. He was born on April 4, 1936, in Madison, the son of Joseph and Edna (Peterson) Matush.

Ed graduated from Madison East High School in 1954 and later earned his degree from UW-Platteville. He married Virginia Conger on July 20, 1963, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison. Early in his career, Ed worked in carpentry before going on to own and operate Matush Apartments in Madison.

Beyond his work, Ed was a gifted woodcarver, an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and a devoted flower gardener. He enjoyed a good meal, and while he wasn’t always a man of many words, his quiet presence spoke volumes about the kind of person he was. Ed was also an avid Packers fan.

Ed is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Linda (Narciso “BB”) Ortiz; sons, Keith (Jana) Matush and Thomas (Jennifer) Matush; granddaughters, Allison, Alexandra, Madeline, Megan, Noela and Clarissa; grandsons, Eddy and Cody; great grandchildren, Nolan, Liam, Noah, Hadley, Oakley, Francis and baby boy on the way; sisters, Nancy, Judy, Sue (Gary) and Wally; feline companion, Milo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edna; and brothers, Dick and Thomas "Pete."

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with Father Brad Grobbel and Deacon Narciso “BB” Ortiz presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. An additional visitation will take place at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday.
