Obituary
MADISON - Margy Susan Lambert passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026. Born August 13, 1956, in Rhinelander, Wis., to Amity and Gloria Lambert, she was the eighth of nine children. She graduated from UW-Madison with a B.S. degree in Zoology, received her M.S. degree in Genetics from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and received her Ph.D. from UC-Berkeley in Environmental Science.
Margy spent over 20 years doing scientific research in labs. During those years she came to appreciate the need for better policies and enforcement concerning workplace safety. She left research and worked as a Bio-safety Officer at UW Madison and then at Marquette University. She then worked as a Biological Safety expert at OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Washington, D.C.)
Margy loved being part of a large extended family. She particularly enjoyed spending time with the family babies and little children. She was thrilled when her son, Zach, was born. He was her pride and joy. She spent much time with her sister Geraldine’s children, Wes and Max. They thought of her as their second mom. Over the years, she was always volunteering to babysit - ready to cuddle with the babies, play with the little ones, and give plenty of hugs. So many good times with sister Carol’s children, Ben, Stu and Amy; brother Mike’s children, Madeline and Sam; brother Randy’s children, Cyrus and Ruby; and sister Julia’s daughter, Jen.
Margy enjoyed traveling, reading and going for walks. A favorite place to walk was Gov. Nelson State Park. After she retired, she would also spend time sitting outside with her dog, Ike, watching the various creatures that wandered through her yard.
Margy is survived by her son, Zach; siblings, Nancy, Geraldine (Emilio), Mike, Randy (Jane), Julia (Lynn) and Theresa; nieces, Amy (Rob), Madeline and Ruby; nephews, Ben, Stu ,Steve, Scott, David, Wes (Alex), Max (Kyra), Sam and Cyrus; grand-nieces, Mya, Maggie and Nora; and grand-nephews, Jack and Nick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amity and Gloria; sister, Carol; brothers-in-law, Raymond and Rich; and niece, Jen.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
