Obituary
MADISON - Kathleen Alice Haley, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Kathy was born in Milwaukee on January 3, 1945 to Joseph and Alice (Daehn) Hardgrove and was raised in Fond du Lac. Kathy married David Haley on August 19, 1967.
Kathy graduated from the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Out of school she worked at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago in rehabilitation nursing until daughter Julia was born at which time she put her career on hold to raise Julia and Gregory. Later returning to work initially in elderly care and rehabilitation in nursing home settings including positions of Inservice Director and Director of Nursing. This was followed by many years in public health nursing primarily with Visiting Nurse Service and South Madison Coalition for the Elderly. While working at Visiting Nurse, Kathy was also a Preceptor with the University of Wisconsin School of Nursing, teaching nursing students the hands-on aspects of being a visiting nurse.
Kathy enjoyed, along with husband, David, fine art and music always making art museums, concerts and opera a priority. She also had great interest in legitimate theater productions, primarily APT and the Guthrie.
Kathy involved herself in education and service programs at St. Albert Parish in Sun Prairie and Blessed Sacrament in Madison. She earned a certification in Education for Parish Service at Edgewood College. She was active in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for many years.
Vacation in Wisconsin’s north woods with the children was always on the summer agenda.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Hardgrove and her mother, Alice Hardgrove.
Kathy is survived by her husband, David; children, Julia Langenhuizen (Allen) and Gregory Haley (Annique Fung); granddaughters, Emma Langenhuizen and Sofie Langenhuizen; and grandsons, Oscar Haley and Felix Haley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH, 2121 Rowley Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday March 3, 2026, with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
