Obituary
COTTAGE GROVE - Bernard A. Albert “Bernie,” age 67, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. He was born on October 7, 1958, in Iowa and was raised in and graduated high school from Cuba City, WI.
Bernard was married to the love of his life, Elisabeth Albert (nee, Thompson), for 46 years. They had met at Henry Vilas Zoo at a MATC picnic. Together they welcomed three daughters and built a beautiful life with loving family.
Bernie always prioritized family and was always there to help anyone who needed it. He brightened the lives of those he met. Bernie really enjoyed the outdoors. He was well known for collecting walnuts and foraging for morel mushrooms. You could regularly find Bernie out fishing, working on a vehicle, gardening or spending time with his family. He also really enjoyed hunting, woodworking, sci fi, and just working with his hands. He always made sure to keep busy. Bernie pursued his passion for automotives and was a proud diesel mechanic for over 40 years. M&J was like a second home and family to him. He enjoyed helping and teaching people everything he knew.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Elisabeth; daughters, Anna Albert, Jenny Albert (Chris Brown) and Laura Albert (Mike Walsh); grandchildren, Orlando, Alixandur, Michael, Caydence, Theodore, KK and Isaiah; siblings, Gay (Larry) Hinderman, Joe (Kathy) Albert, Mark (Rose) Albert, Harley (Annie) Lemkuil and Mary (Jim) Guerin; cousins, Toby Arthofer and Trudy Arthofer; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia; step-father, Harley; sister, Joy Albert and George Kramer.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026. An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will immediately follow the service.
