Obituary
COTTAGE GROVE - Jean Brown, age 89, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Drumlin Reserve Memory Care. She was born on May 26, 1936, in Baraboo, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Vera (Koberstein) Kasten.
Jean graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Duane Brown in Baraboo on July 17, 1965. She worked as a housekeeper for Road Star Inn, retiring in 1993.
Jean had a deep love for flowers and birds, and she took great joy in tending to her beautiful gardens-especially her cherished lilac bushes. She also delighted in working on puzzles, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Katrina (Sean) Stephan, Diane (Julius) Miller and Theresa (David) Thelen; grandchildren, Josh Stephan, Kyle Stephan, Liam Thelen and Genevieve Thelen; brother, Dean (June) Kasten; and sister, Karen (Aldon) Reppen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents, Frank and Vera; and sisters, June Kasten and Ruth Hindes.
A funeral service will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Highway AB, McFarland, at 12 noon on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
