Obituary
MONONA - Eugene Walter Dzikowski, age 94, of Monona, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at home. He was born on February 4, 1932, in Stevens Point, Wis., the son of Walter and Mary Dzikowski. Eugene attended St. Peter’s grade school and at the time the Mass was in Latin and his parents spoke in Polish at home so young Eugene had an early understanding of what was said in multiple languages.
Eugene graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point, Wis., and Milwaukee Business College. He was united in marriage to Sylvia (Domack) Dzikowski on April 21, 1956, and they shared 69 wonderful years together.
Eugene was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years. He was stationed in Europe and helped read codes for the military branches. Eugene worked as a fiscal supervisor for the Department of Health and Social Services until he retired due to health problems.
Eugene loved outdoor activities from a young age, especially fishing and gardening. When Eugene was seven years old, he began picking beans to earn income to help his family. He was a much faster picker than the adults! His love of gardening grew as he tended his own backyard garden, and he shared lots of his homegrown produce with those in his neighborhood. Eugene enjoyed recording movies and television shows onto videotapes. His extensive collection of recorded shows was enjoyed by his family and was even highlighted by a local television station.
Eugene cherished time with his children and grandchildren. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed accompanying his children on carnival rides and roller coasters. He looked forward to trips to Florida to visit his daughter, Deb, and going to Disneyworld. His faith was important to him and he was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Madison.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Sylvia; two daughters, Deborah Dzikowski and Diane Dzikowski; son, Donald (Heidi) Dzikowski; granddaughter, Michelle; sister-in-law, Elaine Briselden; nieces and nephews; and his four-legged friend, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Dzikowski; parents, Walter and Mary Dzikowski; sisters, Betty (Bernie) Zakrcheski and Cordelia (Stanley) Cychosz; and brother-in-law, Jim Briselden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, with Father Matthew Pearson presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Wednesday.
