Obituary

Madison - Philip Leroy Lord, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on September 1, 1945, in Richland Center, Wis., the son of Carl and Marie (Burke) Lord.  


Philip proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from September 1963 - September 1967 as a radio repairman. His life changed when he was introduced to Lucille Yonash. After four months of courting, he knew she was the one and proposed. On September 14, 1974, he married Lucille, the love of his life that he forever held close to his heart. She preceded him in death in March 2001.


Prior to retirement, Philip worked as a technician in the electrical repair business. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time at the Lord Farm planting flowers, garden and trees. Fall was always deer hunting season. He set up trail cameras to watch and see what deer were out there. He loved growing flowers and always looked forward to taking care of his grandkids. He spent hours decorating his house for all holidays. His favorite was Halloween. He won a few contests for most decorated house.  


Philip is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Ross Clayton) Lord and Denise (David) Breyman; grandsons, Kaleb, Zachary and Camron; brothers, Larry (Val) Lord, Joe (Janice) Lord, Tom (Deb) Lord and Chuck (Lenice) Lord; and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Lord and Mary (Ray) Jennings. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John Lord and Jim Lord.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH (GYMNASIUM) 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, with Father Radowicz presiding. A luncheon will follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Burial will take place at the Beulah Cemetery in Blue River, Wis.

Denise and Teresa, I was so shocked to hear of your Dad's passing. I saw him not long ago at a Saturday evening service at St. Bernard. He was always such a caring person, taking such tender care of your Mom. My parents and I always chatted with them after services. And your Dad and I worked together in the gym kitchen at the annual festival dinners, and later while The St. Bernard Players were doing their dinner shows. We usual sat next to each other during the shows and talked about our individual families. He loved talking about his girls and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Katherine (Kathy) Goldade

Phil was my across-the-street neighbor for 35 years, and he was a good neighbor. He would always be out first thing when it snowed to clear the sidewalks along both sides of the street for the entire block. Many times I came home from work on snowy days to find he'd cleared my driveway. And I loved his decorations and the spirit that inspired them. Halloween was my favorite, too. I think his decorations brought trick-or-treaters in from other neighborhoods. There weren't as many after he was unable to decorate anymore. Thanks, Phil. Rest in peace.
