Obituary

MADISON - Geraldine M. “Geri” Huemmer, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. She was born on May 25, 1930, in Mauston, Wis., the daughter of Lina and Mary Edgerton. Geri married Donald G. Huemmer in Madison on June 25, 1950.

Geri worked in the home raising her seven children and babysitting numerous other children until all her children were in school. Geri then went to work at C & P Plaza in the Sporting Goods and Toy departments, then went on to manage the Housewares Department. Geri then went to work in the mailroom at US Bank for seven years until the bank closed that department.

Geri belonged to the East Side Club and the Monona Lioness Club. She loved to gamble and play bingo, but her favorite thing to do was dance. You could find her anywhere there was music. Her good friend, Julie Thompson, would drive her, even to Monroe, so they could dance.

Survivors include her children, Cherrie (Gary) Dallmann, Steve (Cindy) Huemmer, Michele (Tom) Crose, Holly Olson, Jeff (Tina) Huemmer, Kurt Huemmer and Kris (Brian) Dorman; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Dolores Doyle, Sarah Pirkl and Debbie (Carl) Kortte; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Geri is further survived by several nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 1988; her mother and father; her in-laws, Roman and Margaret Huemmer; step-mother-in-law, Virginia Huemmer; son-in-law, Dale Olson; brothers-in-law, James Doyle and Dan Pirkl; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Bob Kubicek; and good friend, Jim Higgins.

A Scripture service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, followed by a luncheon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Geri requested that everyone dress casually.

The family would like to thank Mallory and Jennifer, Mom’s main nurse and CNA, and all the other numerous nurses for their great help, support, and love for our mother. You enabled her to live out her life in the home she has lived in for 72 years. We would also like to thank Jack and Harry (two special neighbor boys) for daily getting Mom’s newspaper in her driveway and putting it at her door.

We will miss you Mom, but you will always be with us in our memories and our hearts. We love you.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare in Geri's memory. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I worked with your mom at the Plaza when she was head of housewares. She was part of the reason I liked my job there. I will never forget the one time she was sitting on the floor putting together a vacuum cleaner. I went back to ask her a question and she was sleeping sitting up! lol.... She always needed to keep moving otherwise it was a catnap in the making. We went to the singles club at McGovern's every week -- so she could dance. One year for Halloween Geri, Barb and I dressed up as the three pigs. It was a blast. The only time I have rode the entire bike lake loop in Madison was with her. She was very sweet and kind hearted. My sympathies to you all.
