MCFARLAND / MONONA / RIO -Linda J. McFarlane, age 81, of McFarland/Monona/Rio, Wis., freed her spirit while surrounded by loving family and friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Linda was born in Chicago, Ill., on October 1, 1944, to the late Eleanor (Peterson) Seekins and Bernard Friedlund.
Linda graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1962. She spent decades working for the State of Wisconsin until she made her entrepreneurial impact by owning and operating two businesses, Hawaiian Sun and The Cruise Company. She had an unstoppable work ethic and celebrated her hard work with unique travel experiences throughout America, Central America and the Caribbean. She was also a fan of winter sports, especially downhill skiing, cross country skiing, ice skating, and hockey. Linda was also a lover of good music, great books, pink lipstick, and social justice.
She is survived by her daughters, Tiffany (Don) LaBelle and Cherise (Torvic) Caradine; her partner of 23 years, Rodney Burmeister; two brothers and one sister, Philip (Lisa) Friedlund and Deborah Sawyer; three grandchildren, Bryce LaBelle, Cyann Caradine and Dashel Caradine; her beloved dog, Zoey and many nieces and nephews. Her survivors will honor her in taking time to appreciate the beautiful things in life that Linda loved - wildlife, rock formations, hugs and sun rises/sets.
Linda’s family will be receiving friends at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, with a spiritual service at 4 p.m. Linda’s friends and family will be welcomed to celebrate her life after the service at GREAT DANE PUB & BREWING CO., 876 Jupiter Drive, Madison, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
