I always loved library with Mrs. Wittenwyler in elementary school - so much so that as a middle schooler, I walked down during study halls to help her as a student assistant. I have these great bookmarks that we made with her in elementary school, as well as several letters she wrote to me later in life when I was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. She remained supportive in my life well past the walls of the school so many years ago! She was truly an amazing person and her departure leaves me sad, but the memories are deeply cherished. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

To the family of Joyce. I had fully intended to come to the visitation/funeral this morning, but I have come down with a cold and it's probably best if I stay away. Joyce was a wonderful librarian and was in that position for many of my teaching years in Mt. Horeb. My sincere sympathy to the entire family.

I remember when you lived on one side of the church in Brooklyn and we lived on the other side. John three or four, he would come over and ring the doorbell cause he was bisiting, not visiting, bisiting mom would ask him if his mom knew where he was he always said, sure her do, so they would have a bisit sitting on the back porch. He always had a story to tell about old dumb Bruce. The bisit was over when Joyce came over to see if we had seen him.

I have Ms. Wittenwyler to thank for my love of books and reading. I can still remember how she'd explain the differences between the Caldecott Medal & the Newbery Medal and how if books had that seal on them, you knew they were good, but don't ignore the other books. Please accept my condolences and know that she made such an impact in the lives of so many people.
