Duane W. Spring

November 23, 1943 - January 30, 2026

Obituary

OREGON - Duane W. Spring, age 82, of Oregon, Wis., died January 30, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wis. The cause was a stroke suffered two days prior.

Duane was born on November 23, 1943, in Monroe, Wis., the first son of Willis and Ruth (Holcomb) Spring. He married Donna in Belleville, Wis., on August 1, 1969. They had two children, Mark and Brenda.

Duane graduated from New Glarus High School in 1961. Upon graduation he worked at a cheese factory and later for General Motors on their assembly line in Janesville, Wis. He was in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. After discharge from the Army, he became an ironworker. He “worked iron” for 30 years, the last 12 of which he was a rigger for Reynolds Transfer and Storage in Madison. If you mistakenly referred to him as a “steel worker” he would quickly correct you. After retiring from ironworking in 1999, he worked at Nedrebo’s in Madison for 10 years.

Duane enjoyed spending time boating and fishing.  He was also an avid Packers and Badgers fan.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beverly Babler and Debra Johnson; and a son, Baby Boy Spring. He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Mark (Jenny) and Brenda (Bevan Sr.); grandchildren, Rafael, Bevan Jr., and Keilana; brother, Dwight (Sandra) Spring; brother-in-law, Milton Babler; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at the 2nd floor ICU unit and the 5th floor hospice at St. Mary’s for making Duane’s final days as peaceful as possible. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
