Cottage Grove - Arthur J. Herbold, age 62, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on May 25, 1963, in Detroit, Mich., the son of James and Mary (nee, Tatro) Herbold. Arthur graduated from Grosse Point High. On September 23, 2006, he married Anne (Vogt) Herbold.
For 20 years Art worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at Madison Truck Company. In his free time, he enjoyed trapshooting, fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. Art was an instructor for the Wisconsin Hunters Education Program. He also treasured time spent with his family. The family gatherings with his cousins meant the world to him. He loved being a grandpa and taught the grandchildren how to fish, while creating great memories with them.
Art is survived by his wife, Anne; sons, Jesse (Haydee) Maier, Tim (Victoria) Maier and Scott (Cassie) Maier; daughter, Abby Maier; grandchildren, Tom and Andy Maier, and Nicholas and James Maier; brother, William "Bill" (Mary) Herbold; brothers-in-law, Steve (Barbara) Vogt and Al (Meridith) Vogt; sisters-in-law, Judy Hocking and Kris Temperly; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary (nee, Tatro) Herbold; parents-in-law, Doc and Gerry Vogt; two brothers-in-law, Jake Vogt and Bill Temperly; sister-in-law, Judith Vogt; and his ever faithful dog and “Wingman”, Sammy.
