POYNETTE - Carol Gretchen Vonderohe, age 76, of Poynette, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Middleton Village. She was born on October 14, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of John “Jack” and Margaret “Peg” (Vernon) Eisinger.
Gretchen attended the University of Illinois and received a degree in anthropology. This is when she met Alan Vonderohe and they were married on August 29, 1970. Gretchen cherished the years they shared together, finding joy both in the quiet rhythms of daily life at home and in their many travel adventures.
Gretchen was deeply intellectual, yet reserved and private. She expressed her creativity through crocheting, embroidery, painting, and other craft projects. A devoted cat lover, Gretchen always shared her home with at least one feline companion, if not more.
Gretchen is survived by her sister, Margaret "Robin" (Michael McGrail) Eisinger; brother-in-law, Geary Smith; sister-in-law, Elaina Smith; two nephews and many loving cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Vonderohe on November 5, 2025; parents; sister, Mary Jo Eisinger; and a nephew.
