WAUSAUKEE - Douglas Robert Lichtfeld, age 86, of Wausaukee, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on July 18, 1939, in Lake Forest, IL, the son of Richard and Grace (Harms) Lichtfeld.


In 1958 Douglas graduated from Libertyville High School in Libertyville, IL. As a young man he served in the Wisconsin National Guard. He married Deborah "Deb" Skubal on a beautiful day in June 2006.


Doug began his career in the plumbing trade in 1955, where he learned from his father and grandfather, the proud owners of Lichtfeld Plumbing. He went on to earn his Master Plumber certification and spent most of his professional life serving the Appleton area, retiring from Kampo Plumbing in 1997.


Doug found joy in so many corners of life. He loved milkshakes and sweets and cherished time spent up north on the river with Debbie. Creativity came naturally to him-whether he was carving wood, painting, making art or nurturing gardens and plants. Doug embraced the outdoors with genuine appreciation, delighting in the wildlife around him and the peaceful rhythm of living along the Menominee River. Nature was his refuge, and he explored it whenever he had the chance. Doug also had an adventurous side, enjoying scuba diving, sailing and he carried a lifelong love of music-especially the easygoing, feel-good sound of Jimmy Buffett.


Doug is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughters, Amy Bailey and Kiya (Dean) Genthe; grandchildren, Jarae Genthe and Miles Genthe; four sisters-in-law, Joan Lichtfeld, Marianne Lichtfeld, Patty (Dan) Gray and Susan (Mike Sundquist) Skubal; and brothers-in-law, Tom (Debbie) Skubal and Mark (Maria) Skubal. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Lichtfeld and Richard "Dick" Lichtfeld; and sister, Sally Lichtfeld.


A celebration of life will held at a later date.

Uncle Doug was my favorite uncle. I loved spending weekends with him while he went on service calls to farms and then we would go water skiing. He actually had a round piece of wood we called the aqua board. We started out sitting on the board then standing and then I would climb on his shoulders. We could jump waves and twirl in a complete circle. We would head home and have the best sweet and sour pork dinner and he would play his ukulele and sing.he was a great uncle

Sending sincere condolences and prayers for the loss of dear Doug. He was our neighbor and friend on the river, and we have many happy memories of our times together. Especially fun was traveling with you and Deb to Iceland and the Blue Danube River. Doug was always one to share a laugh and make you feel welcome. We cherish the bear he carved and display it.
