Obituary

VERONA - Mary D. Georgeff, age 66, of Verona, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Noel Manor. She was born on October 2, 1959, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of George and Jeanne (Verret) Georgeff.

Mary graduated from Central High School in Omaha, received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her Master’s in Library Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

She cared deeply about supporting libraries, preserving history, and continually learning about the world around her. She took pride in her Nebraskan roots, her time spent in New Mexico, and her Macedonian heritage, which remained an important part of her identity.

A gifted painter with a true appreciation for art, Mary worked at Olbrich Gardens and the Aldo Leopold Nature Center-places that reflected her love of nature and the world around her. Gardening was one of her greatest joys, and she took immense pride in the beautiful gardens she created. Animals also held a special place in her heart, especially cats, who were a constant and beloved presence in her life.

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Molly (Daugherty) and Jake Horning; two brothers, Matt Georgeff and Mark Georgeff; niece, Mara Georgeff; her extended family in Milwaukee; and found family on Zwerg in Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Joe Georgeff.

A celebration of life will be held at OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS, 3330 Atwood Avenue, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. In keeping with mom’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, we invite all who knew and loved her to gather, share memories, and enjoy the gardens at their own pace. Feel free to drop in at any time between 5 p.m. and 7pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Diabetes Association or Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
