MaryEllen (Molly) Millar

December 08, 1933 - January 07, 2026

Obituary

MaryEllen "Molly" Millar, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born on December 8, 1933, to Earl and Ellen Antoine.

MaryEllen lived a life defined by her devotion to others.

A daughter of the Greatest Generation, Molly grew up with a resilient spirit that she carried through nine decades of life. She worked as the Teacher’s Aide at Springfield Elementary for 26 years.

Molly was known for her deep love of animals and nature, particularly her beloved horses, which were a source of joy for many years. A talented musician, she shared her gift by playing and teaching piano, leaving a lasting impact on her many students. She was the choir director at Asbury Methodist Church.

She was involved with Girl and Boy Scouts in the Middleton area, hosted AFS students, and welcomed respite and foster children into her home. Molly’s life was a testament to her unwavering kindness. Those who knew her will most remember her "volunteering heart"-she was a woman who constantly and actively sought out ways to help those around her.

Molly is survived by her children, Debra (Keith) Elliott of Portage, James Millar of Blue Mounds, and Karen Millar (Najam Kazi) of Brunswick, GA; her grandson, John C. Reed (Erika) of Lake Geneva; and her brother, Louis E. Antoine of Deerfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Millar, in 2003.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Riverwood Senior Living and Memory Care, for their compassionate care over the past year and a half. Also, to SSM Health at Home, for their medical expertise and compassion.

A celebration of Molly’s long and beautiful life will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Molly, she was so many things to me. 10 years plus Girl Scout leader, good friend of my mother and father, mother of my dearest friend Karen. So many memories, “Bugs” was her nickname at GS day camp, patiently taking 30+ adolescent girls to a Dude Ranch (how brave!), dropping in at my parents for a drink, remembering who I was and that I was probably naughty as a youngster (she was right!) even when memories were challenging.. Love all that and more. Thank you Molly, may your journey be filled with love and adventure. ❤️

I first met Molly when I was in kindergarten. She was an angel. Molly had a huge influence on my life. I became best friends with two of the foreign exchange students that she hosted. Christian Kaiser (Germany) and Wolf (olf) Vaibar (Sweden). She took us rollerskating in Prarie Du Sac and movie watching at the old outdoor High Point Cinema. Molly taught me to accept and embrace those cultures that were alien and funny to me. My eyes are filled with tears right now. It's hard to type. I didn't get to say goodbye to her. But I know she'd love what I just said about her Loved you and your horses Molly, your Boa constrictor....not so much. Thank you for making me a good person ❤️

Wow, I met Molly back in the 70's through a mutual friend. She took me horseback riding through her woods. I hung on for dear life as we rode through gullies, up hills and then she says, "Let's race!" OMG, what fun, what an experience. I will never forget this! Thank you, Molly, for sharing those experiences with me.
