Obituary

Day Anthony DeRosa passed away on Sunday, December 28, at Charter Senior Living in Madison, Wisconsin, two days after his 88th birthday.


Born to Frank and Jennie (Marino) DeRosa on December 26, 1937, Day grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and attended Warren Harding High School.


Day was gifted with an innate mechanical ability, purportedly rebuilding his father’s 1950 Cadillac engine at age 15 with no prior schooling. He consequently worked many years for Avco Lycoming in Stratford, Connecticut, working his way up from the factory floor to management. He then spent 25 years as a quality assurance inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), traveling the world to industrial plants in Germany, Italy, England, Sweden, and Japan on numerous occasions.


He retired in August 2005 and fulfilled his dream of moving to Florida, building a home in Venice that was his pride and joy and the pinnacle of his creative achievements.


Day was a life-long car enthusiast and owned, maintained, and built many classic and collectible cars over the years.


He is survived by his sister, Joan Bogen, his sons Day DeRosa, Jr, of Milford, Connecticut, and Doug DeRosa, and grandsons Enzo and Gino DeRosa, of Monona, Wisconsin.


He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Agnes (Kranyik) DeRosa, and siblings Peggy and Vincent DeRosa, Terry Pavone, and Barbara Paul.


Day will be entombed with Agnes at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, Connecticut.


A celebration of Day's life will be held at GOOD OLE DAYS PIZZA & COCKTAIL DEN, 19 Main St., Newtown, Connecticut, from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

I had the honor and privilege to know Day and Doug from his time at Charter. To say that Day was loved by everyone would be a wild understatement. We are all so much better for knowing him. Day & I were one year apart & had fun adventures when we were kids. He was always at our house in Stratford learning many things like fixing bikes & cars from his Uncle Leonard, my father, who loved him like the son he never had. We were two of 20 cousins, & I was one of four sisters. I loved Day like a brother & continued to stay in touch with him & his beloved wife Aggie until her passing and his subsequent move to Douglas in Wisconsin. I will always remember him as an important part of my childhood! Rest in peace with Aggie my wonderful cousin!

Day was such a kind man. I will never forget how he and his family showed me love during a very vulnerable time in my life. That kind of kindness stays with you forever. I will always miss Aggie too . She was like another mom to me for a long time.. I’m so sorry I can’t be there in person, as I will be at my uncle’s funeral the same day, but please know I’m holding all of you in my heart and prayers. I truly believe we will see him again, and that gives me peace. 🤍

I very sadly heard about this today 4-20-26. Day was kind enough to give me my first job opportunity at AVCO in Stratford, I followed his career path to FAA as he did, because he was kind enough to help me secure my first position at the FAA as well. We stayed connected for many years, but lost track of each other in the last five years. Now finding this out, I am deeply saddened. Everything I am and have today is because of Day’s support throughout my aviation career. My wife Debbie and son Nicholas will never forget Day and Aggie’s kindness, hospitality, and decades long friendship.
