Obituary

OREGON - After a brief illness, Bob Postel, age 74, died quietly, surrounded by family in his home in Oregon, Wis., on December 25, 2025.

Bob is survived by his son, Casey (Amanda) Postel and daughter, Sara (Tom) Williams; grandchildren, Elijah Gerard, Grady Postel, Blake, Mason and Adilee Williams; brother, John Postel; sister, Jan Zoerb; and nieces, Katie Postel and Elissa Zoerb. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Robin Adair Postel.

Bob was born in Richland Center, Wis., on June 5, 1951, the son of Robert and Jennie (McMahon) Postel. He then spent his youth in Madison, Wis., until moving with his family to Wauwatosa, Wis., in 1966.

Bob was connected with music from an early age. He was a member of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corp for five years during middle and high school where he had the opportunity to make many friends from the Madison area that he remained in touch with throughout his life.

Bob studied Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to his studies at UW, he became quite involved in the vibrant Madison live music scene, where he became part of a community of professional musicians through which he met most of his life-long and close circle of friends. Through these connections, Bob joined Mountain Railroad Records. He cites his time there as the best and most fun job he ever had. Later, he spent many years working in the underground infrastructure manufacturing business.

Bob, Robin and their kids enjoyed many trips out west to visit family. Later, Bob and Robin traveled to many countries immersing themselves in the different cultures. Bob was blessed to have built a home with Robin that they shared for over 46 years. Their home was always open to friends and family and would often serve as a stage for live music and gatherings.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

He will be missed by many, thought of often and loved forever.

I love that picture of Bob! I often say to myself “Bob is gone,” with disbelief. I’m sure we all share that. And I hear his voice… especially saying “well that could be” after I’ve speculated on something. It’s hard to think of that empty house. Many spirits alive there. My thoughts are with you, Casey and Sara and grandchildren. He is missed by many, already.

One of my first memories of Bob was connecting in Mexico. It was at a restaurant table of folks from Madison and Bob was fully enlivened being in Mexico. His spirit and personality were infectious. I'll miss him. -Zane Williams
