Obituary

HILL POINT - Shelly C. Anders, age 62, of Hill Point, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on October 18, 1963, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Harold W. Helwig and Mary C. (Gilbertson) Cottine.


Shelly graduated from Mount Horeb High School, and from UW-Platteville with a degree in Accounting; subsequently she graduated with a nursing degree from William Rainey Harper College, Palatine, Ill. She was employed as a business manager for a Care Facility in Illinois, while raising children. Recently she worked doing tax preparation for Oregon Tax and Accounting, handling many complex projects and problem solving, culminating an eight-year career. She enjoyed volunteering with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts while her children were young, and she was actively involved in Dodgeville Troop 165 for many years. One of Shelly's latest endeavors was owning a facility, and hosting a retreat for quilting, pottery, and further artistic pursuits in western Wisconsin. Shelly, while she was young, was an equestrian, owning a registered Arabian, as well as other animals and pets. While residing in Palatine, she was a member of a bowling league.


Shelly is survived by her sons, Vincent (Olivia) Anders and Jacob "Jake" Anders; grandchildren, Brynlee Anders and Trinity Anders; brothers, Steven Helwig and William "Bill" Helwig; nephews, Leo Helwig, Hunter (Kelsey) Helwig, Chayse Helwig, Dakota Helwig; nieces, Whitney (Erick) Sperloen, Hannah (Roberto) Mora, Mia Schroeder-Oyler, Viviana Helwig; grandniece, Olivia E. Mora; extended relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.


A celebration of life will be held at BUCK & HONEY’S MOUNT HOREB (MARTINSON HALL), 108 S. Second St., Mount Horeb, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2025.

We are sorry for your loss. Our quilt group met at Shelly's retreat every month and she was very generous in letting our group meet for sewing days. We also enjoyed retreating there.
