COTTAGE GROVE - Rev. Bradley James Homan was called home to his Lord and Savior on December 20, 2025, at UW Hospital in Madison, Wis.
Brad was born on June 1, 1955, to Richard and Kay (Parker) Homan in Sharon, Wis. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, which became the foundation of his life. Brad attended Madison Memorial High School, Bethany Lutheran College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary, faithfully answering God's call to ministry.
On June 13, 1981, Brad married Julie (Koenen). Brad served as a pastor for five years at First Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay, Mich., and also 27 years at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Madison. He cared deeply for his congregations and lived out his calling with humility and compassion. After retiring in 2014, Brad and Julie became members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Madison, continuing to worship, serve, and grow in faith.
One of Brad's greatest joys was watching his children play sports-from their earliest games through their high school graduations-cheering them on with pride and quiet encouragement. Brad was immensely proud of his children and deeply grateful for the Christian spouses they found, thanking God for the families they built together. He delighted in his grandchildren and loved watching them grow, learn, and discover the world.
Throughout the many health challenges Brad faced over the years, his faith remained steadfast. In his final days, Brad found great comfort in knowing that he would soon be home in Heaven, reunited with his Savior. This hope sustained him and those who loved him.
The family is especially grateful for the compassionate care, support, and dedication shown by the SSM Health system and the UW Health Hospital system, whose kindness and professionalism were a blessing.
Brad is survived by his wife, Julie Homan; his children, Jon (Tanya) Homan and their children, Luke and Matthew; David (Trisha) Homan and their children, Jack, Noah and Levi; and Allison (Ben) Petzel and their children, Faith, Jonah and Micah. He is also survived by his mother, Kay; brothers, Randall (Karla) Homan and Robert (Ginger) Homan; sisters, Pat Ennis (partner, Neil) and Laura (Ron) Kiesler; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Pam (Tom) Tyrrell and Susan (Scott) Wilcox; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Homan; brother, Rick Homan; parents-in-law, David and Marjory Koenen; and Shari Koenen.
A funeral service will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 734 Holy Cross Way, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, with a luncheon to follow.
