Obituary

ASHTON - Thomas W. Wagner, age 72, of Ashton, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at UW Hospital and Clinics surrounded by his family. He was born on August 21, 1953, in Madison, the son of Jerome and Theresa (Bollenbeck) Wagner.


Tom attended Middleton High School. He married Lorie (Nelson) Wagner on June 10, 2000, at Midvale Lutheran Church, Madison.


Tom was a devoted dairy farmer, always looking for ways to improve the family farm. He was an early adopter of modern farming practices, and he helped grow the dairy herd from 500 head back in the 1980’s to what it is today. Farming held a special place in Tom’s heart, and his dedication, innovation and work ethic left a lasting impact on the agricultural community.


Above all, Tom cherished spending time with his wife and traveling with her, including their annual trips to the Indianapolis 500, a tradition they enjoyed for many years. Beyond that, he embraced his passion for mechanics and speed. In his younger years, he loved working on modified pro stock cars and won his class in the quarter-mile at Indianapolis in 1978. He also found great joy in riding his Norton and Harley Davidson motorcycles.


Thomas is survived by his wife, Lorie Wagner; six brothers, Richard (LouAnn) Wagner, Daniel (Terri) Wagner, Eugene (Patty) Wagner, Jerry (Jeanne) Wagner, Charles (Marie) Wagner and Mark Wagner; three sisters, Mary Therese (Daniel) Trappe, Beth (Roy) Wagner-Hietpas and Kristi (Robert) Ramsey; and several nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Theresa Wagner.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 7121 County Road K, Ashton, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, with Father Brad Grobbel presiding. Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, and also at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Tom was a classmate of mine & was also a great guy to be around. Had some good times after bar time when Bret's was a bar on Mineral Point Rd. His sister Mary was our babysitter when our kids were young who was another great Wagner. My sympathy to the Wagner family.

I’m so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. We became friends in high school through our love of fast cars, "field trips" (half-barrel beer parties in the field), and cruising. Most memorable are the times we would meet at Rusty’s or The Unicorn and then jump into his orange Corvette and head to the Square. When we’d get back to the farm at 1 or 2 a.m., “Ma” would be waiting. She’d just shake her head and remind Tom he had chores to do in the morning. Which he would manage to do — most of the time.
