Obituary

Edith M. Odell, age 98, of Madison, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Oakwood West- Tabor Oaks. She was born on February 1, 1927, in Spring Green, Wis., the daughter of Emily and Russel Slauson. Growing up on the farm was full of hard work and adventure.


After high school, Edith moved to Madison and worked for USAFE. She was a stay-at-home mom in the ‘50s and ‘60s, then returned to work as an executive secretary until her retirement.


Edith enjoyed cooking and baking. Her Christmas cookie array was legendary. Edith began watercolor painting after retirement and her portfolio is varied and beautiful.


She lived a full life.


Edith was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; daughter, Lori Bush; and son, Thomas Odell. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Patrick) O'Malley; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.  


A celebration of life will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tunnels to Towers Foundation (T2T), Bethany United Methodist Church or Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
