Obituary
MADISON / MILWAUKEE - Robert Edward O'Kray, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at home. He was born on December 29, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Raymond and Helen (Jablonski) O'Kray.
Robert graduated from West Division High School in Milwaukee in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was active in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
Robert worked as a welder for many years at AO Smith, Inc. and P&H Mining (Komatsu). He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Robert was also a skilled trap shooter, became state champion and was inducted into the Wisconsin Trap Shooting Association Hall of Fame in 2002.
Robert is survived by his sister, Barbara Jean (Ervin Altenberger) O’Kray Lew Altenberger; nephews, Ryan Altenberger, Michael (Johanna) Altenberger, Scott O'Kray and Richard O'Kray; and nieces, Amanda Altenberger and Dawn Simandl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond J. and Helen O'Kray; sister, Marleen (Richard) Simandl; brother, Eugene (Mary Ann) O'Kray; niece, Kim Ann Johnson; and nephew, Sean O'Kray.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025. Burial with military honors will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
