Scott L Gurriell

MADISON - Scott Lawrence Gurriell, age 62, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025. He was born on May 7, 1963, in Madison, Wis., the son of Sidney and Ann (Schmidt) Gurriell.

Scott graduated from Sun Prairie - Special Education High School in 1984.  He worked as a general laborer for Promega for many years, assembling boxes, as well as several other businesses.

Scott participated in the Special Olympics in Oregon, Wis. as a member of the Track and Field and Bowling teams.

Scott absolutely loved music and dancing. His particular favorites were Elvis, Grease and Dirty Dancing. He was also a very talented artist and loved to draw. Scott also had a special love for animals. He always looked forward to traveling and had fond memories of Mount Rushmore and Yosemite. Family trips included a Disney Cruise and adventures in the Wisconsin Dells. Scott enjoyed accompanying his brother, Jeff, to the casino to test out their luck. He also always looked forward to going to the MARC. Scott did so much with his life-long best friend, Rick. They were alter boys together, and the two of them would go bowling with the East YMCA. Their bowling team name was “The Wise Guys.”

Scott is survived by his sisters, Lynn (Roger) Korfmacher, Joan (Shorty) Fahser and Julie (Gene) Swenson; and brother, Jeff Gurriell. He was preceded in death by parents, Sidney and Ann; his brother, Allan Gurriell; nephew, Greg Guriell; and best friend, Rick Lewis.

Scott’s family would like to give a special thanks to Dreamweavers, especially Barbara Ridgeman, Joe, Angel and all of the caretakers. They would also like to thank all the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their wonderful care of Scott in his final days, along with Dr. Christina Hook, his family care doctor.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Saturday, March 28, 2026, with Father Eric Sternberg presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
