Obituary

MADISON - Teresa “Chacha” Avila Noriega, age 72, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Meriter Hospital. She was born on June 18, 1953, in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, the daughter of Ramon and Carmen (Hernandez) Avila.


She married Julio Noriega on October 16, 1981, in Madison.


Teresa enjoyed flowers, music and dancing. Her love of cooking was evident to anyone who tasted her fantastic kitchen creations. Many wonderful memories were made when traveling around the United States and Europe with Julio, her siblings and friends. Spending time with family was very important to her.


Teresa is survived by her husband, Julio; three daughters, Maria (David) Walker, Martha (Gilbert) Reyes and Sara (Alex) Brogdon; son, Julio (Natalie) Noriega; eight grandchildren, Emilo and Nico Reyes, Isabella (Levi Sherman) Walker, Alex Brogdon, Eva Walker, Samuel Reyes, Anahlia and Ariana Brogdon; great-grandchildren, Levi and Selah Sherman; five siblings, Martha (Juan) Noriega, Carlos (Sonia) Avila, Carmen (David) Saldona, Jesus (Luz) Avila and Cruz Perez; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Guadalupe Avila and Ramon Avila.


A memorial service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, with Father Jose Luis Vazquez presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
 

Thank you to her husband, Julio, for the wonderful care he provided over the years. Also, a special thanks to her children and family for their continued support.

It's always difficult to say goodbye to our loved ones, but I know God's hand is in everything. My precious sister, may you be rejoicing before the Lord. I'll miss the long conversations we had and your contagious laughter. "...I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing.". (Jer. 31:13).
