Obituary

ARENA - Daniel J. “Dan” Sheldon, son of Eugene C. and Theresa M. (Dahmen) Sheldon, passed away peacefully at his home on December 4, 2025. He was born on October 13, 1964, the son of Gene and Theresa.

Dan was a generous soul who loved helping others and was a friend to many. He was an avid bowler and loved racing in his younger days. Dan was a lifelong car enthusiast and enjoyed hunting as well as spending time at Trader's and on "the farm" with his buddies. He spent most of his career working for Placon.

Dan is survived by his mother, Theresa; brother, Bill; and sister-in-law, Lynnell; an uncle, aunts, cousins, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene; brother, Tommy; uncles, aunts, cousins; and his special furry friend, Cody.

A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Dan was such a nice person, when I lived in town he would bring his tractor over to mow my lawn for me since I couldn't do it myself, I had over an acre and didnt have a riding mower. He never accepted any money from me, I was so grateful to see him and hear stories of his cars and racing.

I worked with Dan at Placon. He was a thermoformer operator and I worked in the tool room. It was always a pleasure to help him with tooling problems when he asked. Very nice man for sure. I left Placon in 2001 from a major toolroom layoff. My family would go to Columbus 151 race track to watch him race driving "Backwards" at 100 mph. It was crazy. He had no fear! Rest in piece my friend.

I worked with Dan at Placon for over 15 years. We shared many laughs together and was a joy to be around. I remember back in the day at Placon, we would do set-ups together on the old dinosaur "Brown" thermoforming machines. I will miss him, his laughter, great sense of humor, his mechanical knowledge, and being a wonderful friend. Jon Landen Retired from Placon in 2020.

Dan was the first person I met when I moved to Arena when he walked up and introduced himself as my new neighbor. He worked nights and I worked days so we enjoyed morning chats while our dogs explored our yards. He volunteered to mow my lawn for me for years. His friendliness and warm smile will be missed.
