Veronica A Binzley
March 02, 1938 - December 02, 2025
Obituary
MADISON - Veronica Binzley, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Veronica was born on March 2, 1938, in Utica, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur Aylward and Alyce Jones.
When Veronica was young, her parents divorced, and she spent several years with her father in Connecticut before returning to live with her mother in Utica, where she graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1956. She subsequently attended Marcy State Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse.
In 1959, Veronica married Richard Charles Binzley, who remained her devoted husband until his death in 2019. Shortly after their wedding, Veronica and Richard relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii, where Richard served in the United States Coast Guard at Pearl Harbor. While there, Veronica earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Hawaii, graduating as a Phi Beta Kappa. In 1963, Veronica and Richard relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where Veronica would enroll in graduate school at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). During her graduate career, Veronica gave birth to three sons before earning a Ph.D. in psychology in 1973. For more than 20 years, Veronica worked as a clinical psychologist for the State of Ohio at the Warrensville Developmental Center, devoting her career to assisting adults with intellectual disabilities.
Veronica was a voracious reader her entire life, with a particular love for Elizabethan literature, historical fiction, the works of William James and mystery novels of all types. She had a passion for music, was a supporter of the early music program at CWRU and enthusiastically participated in various Cleveland area choirs and recorder groups. Veronica loved to travel and went on many trips abroad with her husband and friends, with destinations including Mumbai, Singapore, Istanbul and many locales in the United Kingdom. She adored the many cats and dogs that entered her life and gave generously to efforts for the humane treatment of animals. Veronica was a lifelong rebel against authority, albeit one who always rebelled with humor and a generous heart. She was also a lifelong spiritual seeker, who has found her place of rest. Requiescat in pace.
Veronica is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Maggie, and their children, Alyssa and Richard of Houston, Texas; son, Robert and his wife, Bonnie, and their children, Elise, Sebastian, Serena, Xavier and Nicholas of Chesterland, Ohio; and son, Ronald and his wife, Jenny, and their children, Mary, Charles and Joseph. She is also survived by her sister, Arlene Aylward Rodriguez and her husband, Richard, of Yuma, Ariz.; brother, Arthur Aylward of Midlothian, Va.; brother, Fred Weigel and his wife, Michelle of Utica, N.Y.; and stepbrother, Prentiss Davis and his wife, Helen, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
