Obituary
STOUGHTON - Patricia M. “Patty” “Pat” Hensel passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 91 at her daughter’s home in Edgerton, Wis., on November 27, 2025.
Pat was born on May 2, 1934, in Sheboygan, Wis., the daughter of the late Eugene and Clara (Eggert) Berg. She attended grade school at Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Central High School in Sheboygan in 1952.
Pat met Lloyd Hensel when she was just 16 years old and he 19 years old and dated until she had to say goodbye to him when he went off to the Korean War in 1953. When he returned, they were united in marriage on April 30, 1955, in Sheboygan, Wis.
Pat was a stay-at-home mom and dedicated her life to supporting her husband and raising their four children, moving five times throughout the State of Wisconsin finally choosing Stoughton in 1966 to make their permanent home. In Stoughton they were both founding members of Good Shephard by The Lake Lutheran Church where she was involved with the Mary Martha Circle making quilts for local needs, these group of women became her good friends to the end. In her younger years, she volunteered at the election polls, taught vacation bible school/Sunday school at the old Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, always volunteering at church potlucks, learned hardanger, and enjoyed her local ceramics class, and attending Badgers football games with Lloyd in the ‘70s/’80s.
In her later years, she and Lloyd enjoyed traveling to the casinos throughout Wisconsin and the mid-west, and their bus trip travels throughout the U.S. She and Lloyd enjoyed meeting with their “lunch bunch” each month at a different surrounding restaurant reminiscing about “life” and playing cards with her Good Shephard friends. One of Pat’s favorite holidays was Thanksgiving, and she always enjoyed the traditional dinner fixings of this day, decorating our table for presentation of the meal and of course, her wonderful apple pie. As is true with every Wisconsinite, she was a diehard Bucks, Brewers, Badgers and Packers fan to the end. Mom, you will be missed dearly and thank you for being a wonderful mom to us all.
Pat is survived by her children, Carey (Sherrie) Hensel, Mary Rorge, Sara (Erik) Toijala and John Hensel; grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Rorge, and Traci and Amy Hensel; great-grandson, Dominic; great-granddaughters, Marlee and Josie; nephew, Rev.
