Obituary
WAUNAKEE - Sally A. Cook, age 90, of Waunakee, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Hattie's Glen. She was born on March 13, 1935, in Waupaca, the daughter of Oscar and Minnie (Schlueter) Cook.
Sally graduated from Waupaca High School in 1953 and received her degree in physical education from UW-La Crosse in 1957. She worked in corrections and taught at Oak Hill in Oregon, Wis., for 26 years, and retired in 1990 from teaching.
Sally was a very independent and stubborn but Christian woman who loved humor and being outdoors. She may have been critical of why or how you did something but not so much if you acted out of love. Sally loved to tell jokes and stories. She had a great willingness to help. She was gifted at cooking and will be fondly remembered for her cheesecake and meatloaf. Sally found joy in farm life, gardening and walks in the woods. She cared deeply for animals.
Sally is survived by her longtime companion, Diane Cooke; nephews, Peter Huettl, Pook Cook, Ronald Cook, Dick Cook, Mike Huettl and John Huettl; and nieces, Judy Von Thelen, Stacci Barganz, Rosemary Clarke, Katie Huettl, Susan Davis, Carol Fletcher, Annie Huettl, Tina Mikkelsen, Linda Posadas and Diahann Abhold. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill Cook, David Cook, Bob Cook and Bud Cook; and sisters, Dorothy Huettl, Marguerite Massa and Carol Finnegan.
Memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society.
Special thanks to Diane Cooke, Judy Von Thelen, Susan Davis, Annie Huettl, Jolita Gallagher, Sharon Russ, Chris and Nathan Weigt, the wonderful staff at Hattie’s Glen, Dane County sheriff deputies, EMTs, UW medical staff and Vickie Beres (ADRC) for their kindness and compassion.
