Obituary

FARMINGTON, N.M. - Joseph Matthew Weger, 75, of Farmington, N.M., suddenly passed away on November 14, 2025. He was born on January 12, 1950, in Madison, Wis., and was the son of Joseph and Lizzie (Payne) Weger.


Joe lived a life defined by travel, hard work, and deep devotion to the people he loved. He was well known for staying busy with something that piqued his interest or helping anyone around him. He found joy in the simple adventures of life-driving long distances to visit family, heading into the mountains to hunt or camp, and spending countless days in the company of his beloved Chocolate Lab, Chaco. Whether on the road, outdoors, or at home, Joe carried a steady kindness and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew him.


Joe is survived by his children, Scott (Lorna) Weger, Chris (Michelle) Weger, Joel (Olivia) Weger and Jasmin (Evan) Redders; grandchildren, Josie, Eric, Justin, Ash, Carter, Charlie, Finn, Leo, Taylor, Ivy and Mia; sisters, Thelma Handel, Iva Weger, Kim Munz and Laurie Dunn; and brothers, Kash Weger and David Weger. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kurt Weger and Brad Weger; partner, Lorrie Bennett; and several family members over the years.


A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

I knew Joe from working at an assisted living facility in Albuquerque at the front desk. Joe would come every Saturday to take his loved one to lunch and errands. I remember his genuine smile and vibrant personality when he would come in and he just lit up the room with his positive energy and smile. I remember his loved one patiently waiting for his arrival in the lobby and she even had her Walgreens list ready! Joe was such an amazing person and I feel blessed to have known him for that brief amount of time... Rest in Peace Joe...

Joe was a great friend to me and my mother. We thought of him as "family" and included him in all our holiday celebrations. We talked from soup to nuts with Joe. Always good and meaningful onversations. He will be missed immensely and my mother and I think of him everyday. He is in our prayers.
