Obituary

MADISON - Ronald Charles Edwards Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, holding the hand of his beloved son. Ron was born the oldest child of Robert and Charlotte (Kittleson) Edwards on May 13, 1945.

Ron was a lifelong member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Madison, where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended Frank Allis Elementary School and graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1963. Ron was a hard worker all his life. As a teenager, he enjoyed helping his uncles with tobacco and dairy farming in the Sun Prairie area. In his adult life, he was a dry cleaner, caretaker of research animals, and a custodian at the Waisman Center.

Fishing, either on ice or in a boat, was Ron’s idea of a perfect day. He spent many Sundays after church at family gatherings, playing cribbage overlooking Lake Kegonsa. He was known for his sense of humor and teasing nature.

Ron is survived by his sons, Ron Jr. (Crystal) and Chris; and grandchildren, Blake and Ashlynn. He is further survived by his sisters, Cheryl Heiliger and Gayl (Al) Johnson. Other survivors include his loving aunt, Audrey Krebs; and nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother-in-law, Don Heiliger Sr.

A funeral service will be held at OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1201 Droster Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, with the Rev. Cory Hahnke presiding and a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Private family burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church or Second Harvest Foodbank. Thank you to Ron’s devoted sister, Cheryl, his caregivers at McFarland Villa Assisted Living and Bristol Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Our hearts are heavy, condolences to Ron's family and friends. Ron shared many hours with the early Solidarity Singers protesting the Walker regime, the circle was not quite complete without him. Ron was a special guy, we were blessed to share some time with him and will miss him, remembering his BELL ringing and wide smiles for everyone. Greg & Karen

Ron is my dad , I’m his youngest child . My dad was a very awesome person , if you know our family you would know his dad , (my grandfather) bob and Charlotte.. they had the same personality’s, my dad loves to fish and chat with most anyone. The nicest loving person you would ever meet , my last (alone ) moment with my dad was Christmas Eve 2025 , he and I had some good laughs together… he was in a great mood and was smiling , inside of me my heart was breaking, knowing I’m losing my father , it’s the most lost strange feeling I’ve ever felt .. I do want to say and thank 3 people .. my aunt Cheryl (dads sister) for your support to dad , he loved you so much. .. I want to say thank you to my brother , Ron jr. You are the best brother anyone could ever ask for, you stayed with dad until he left us .. thank you for all of your love to dad , your wife and children, (dads only grandchildren) dad loved Blake and Ashland so much . And I want to say thank you to my aunt Gayl and uncle Al my loving and awesome godparents ,who stayed and looked after him until he passed . And to every single person who gave there time to come to dads funeral, thank you… dad if you can read this , I love you , I miss you … love Chris …
