Obituary

MADISON / STOUGHTON - Jan L. “John” Shade, age 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 24, 2025, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on January 21, 1949, in Worthington, Minn., the son of Albert and Genevieve (Haase) Shade.


Jan graduated from La Follette High School in 1966 then attended Fresno State. He married Christina Bonano on December 13, 1976, in Fresno, Calif., and were together for over 50 years.


Jan worked as a production administrator for Famous Footwear for many years. He was a member of the Yahara, The Oaks and Monona golf clubs.


Jan is survived by his wife, Chris; two sons, Marcus (Samantha) Shade and Andrew (Amy) Tennent; two grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Tennent; sister, Caryl Shade; brother, Ralph Shade; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Genevieve Shade; brothers, Al (Max) Shade, Brian Shade and Harlind Shade; sister, Glenda Walker; and nephews, Corey, Eric and Harley.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Entombment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
 

Memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank or to First Tee of South Central Wisconsin.

My dear friend Chris, my heart breaks for you. I know Jan is in heaven without any pain. I have very fond memories of talking to Jan at various celebrations at Andy and Amy’s for your beautiful granddaughters, Blake and Brooke! He was a wonderful man and will be missed. We both extend our sympathy to you at this difficult time. I worked at Famous Footwear when Jan came onboard. Although I was on a different, he would seek my advice on occasion. Bob worked at the Oaks Golf Course and knew him from there. We think God had an opening on his golf team and is enjoying playing on heaven's golf course. Rest in peace.
