Obituary
Monona - C. David Mohaney, age 88, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on January 21, 1937, in Monona, Wis., the beloved son of Carl and Ruth (Fisher) Mohaney.
David graduated from Madison East High School in 1955 and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1959 to 1965. David was united in marriage to Virginia Olson on November 26, 1960, and were together for 65 years.
David began his career in office supply sales before starting his own business, but a growing family led him to a career with the Madison Metropolitan School District with employment at La Follette High School, Madison West High School, Orchard Ridge Middle School and retiring at Sennett Middle School in 2000 as the Head Custodian Supervisor. He also obtained a Real Estate Brokers license in 1993. After retirement, he worked part time at UW SWAP from 2005 to 2017.
David was an enthusiastic Green Bay Packer fan as well as an avid supporter of the Milwaukee Bucks, Brewers and UW sports, but David’s most important life’s calling was his family. From working multiple jobs to provide for his young family, to attending EVERY sporting event, choir concert, musical, birthday party or special occasion for his grandchildren. David was the foundation of his family, and you could always count on his love, support as well as his sense of humor just when you needed it.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia; children, Cindy (Robin) Nicholson, Suzanne Berndt, Dave Mohaney and Lynn Pryce; grandchildren, Andrew Derer, Thomas (Ashley) Derer, Devyn (Nate) Ebert, Dylan Pryce, Tyler Berndt and Mykayla Berndt; and great-grandchildren, Henry Derer, Bram Derer, Laylah Pryce, Elliana Pryce, Willow Pryce and Charlotte Heil. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Mohaney; granddaughter, Emily Derer; and many relatives. David was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family.
A celebration of life will be held at THE EAST SIDE CLUB, 3735 Monona Drive, Madison, from 11 a.m until 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2025. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the start of the service at 12 noon, with a luncheon and fellowship to follow.
